Sheldon John defeated Blacksage to become the 2011 Extempo Monarch 2011 at the Queens park Savannah on Thursday night.

In a night which really belonged to the Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism, Winston Gypsy Peters, his performance on stage among all the competitors made the Extempo finals very interesting. Eight competitors started out at the beginning with each singing solo. It then progressed to two pairs of two and then the final pair, John made hash of Blacksage with their topic Government Then and Now.

Karene Ashe won the Political Commentary Category beating Pink Panther and Chalkdust. Devon Seale was an easy winner in the Social Commentary Category defeating Blacksage and Skatie.

The Supreme Queen Calypso Rose was honoured by the NCC and TUCO during the show. Guest artistes included Junior Calypso Monarch Aaron Duncan, Soca Chutney Monarch Rikki Jai, Black Stalin, David Rudder, The Mighty power, Twiggy and Dane Gulston
