UWI Creative Arts Career Fair

UWI Creative Arts Career Fair

The Carnival Institute of Trinidad and Tobago recently participated in the UWI Creative Arts Career Fair on 8th April. The Fair aimed at showing the available career options for Creative Arts graduates. The Institute which employs two UWI graduates, has been hosting UWI Interns for the past four years, from the Department of Creative and festival Arts. These students are pursuing BA degrees in Theatre arts, Carnival Studies, and Visual Arts.

The Institute mounted a small display of carnival photographs. There were images of the 2010 carnival winners, such as Soca Monarch, Chutney Soca Monarch, band of the Year, South Band of the year, Panorama winners, and Carnival Queen. The display also presented two costumes that are part of the Institutes collection: King Sailor with a headpiece and a Tribe costume with a back-pack being partially preserved.

The three interns who are placed at the institute assisted in compiling the 200 give-away bags. These bags included literature such as a traditional Carnival Character colouring book, Harts magazine, COTT magazine, a catalogue from a Steel pan-themed art exhibition, and information on the Carnival Institute.
