NCC Mourns The Passing Of Winston Scarborough, The Original De Fosto Himself

Port of Spain, Trinidad: November 5 , 2018: The National Carnival Commission of Trinidad and Tobago (NCC) joins with the nation in celebrating the life of Winston Scarborough, widely known and beloved as “The Original De Fosto Himself” who passed away on November 2, 2018.

Though he had been ailing for some time, De Fosto mustered the strength and will to render a sterling performance at the Mighty Shadow’s funeral, at the Queen’s Park Savannah last week.

Known for his signature Red, White and Black garb, De Fosto stood tall among the Calypso industry’s greats as a true son of the soil, prolific musician and performer, and he will forever be remembered as one of the most talented composers of steelpan music.

Over the span of an illustrious 40-year music career, he gifted the local world with many an unforgettable composition, including, “Latin On De Court”, “D Greatest Invention”, and “Puncinelly.” Beyond his compositions, which were easily adapted with great success by the steel pan community, De Fosto also created and performed such beloved gems as “Four Lara Four”, which gave Renegades its 7th Panorama title, “Pan Lamentation”, “Firestorm”, “Pandora”, “War”, and “Batman Gone Soca” just to name a few.

NCC Chairman, Winston “Gypsy” Peters, in commenting on the passing, said, “We have lost another icon of the field, and just like those who have gone before him, De Fosto will truly be missed by those who knew him intimately and those who knew of him. And may his soul rest in peace.”
