NCC Invites Stakeholders to Joint Policy-Making Consultations

Now that Carnival 2014 is over, the NCC has embarked on a new initiative to work with all Carnival stakeholders to re-define the economic and social policies around the national festival.

The process, in the form of a series of one-on-one consultations, will create the opportunity for the stakeholders themselves to define  industrial policies and programs aimed at their own development, and at increasing the contribution of Carnival to the economy and society.

The initiative is being facilitated by NCC's expert industrial policy team, led by Dr. Vanus James, Senior Fellow and Professor of Economics at the University of Technology, Jamaica and International Consultant for the World Intellectual Property Organisation.

The general theme of the policy process is "Identifying and Financing Policies and Programs for Developing the Carnival Industry".

The team has started a series of meetings with stakeholders across the spectrum of interest groups and related sectors, including Mas, Pan, Calypso, Government Ministries and agencies, international development partners and funding agencies, contractors, vendors, sponsors, tourism interests, international embassies, academia, film, music studios, media and marketing.

All Carnival stakeholders are invited to be part of this process, geared ultimately at democratising the Carnival industries.

The NCC wishes to emphasize the joint nature of the consultations and its decision-making process. NCC is committed to bringing all interested stakeholders into a process of joint analysis, policy choices and action plans. Our institutional goal is that stakeholders will be the controllers/owners of both the relevant decisions and the results.

The consultations are based at NCC's offices at the Queen's Park Savannah. Groups and individuals wishing to be part of these consultations may call 623-4162 for further information.
