Old Mas Competition heats up Bocas Lit Fest 2018

Take a look back at some of the portrayals at this year’s Old Mas Competition, part of the 2018 Edition of the Bocas Lit Fest. This year’s competition, which took place at the Hart Arcade, NALIS, Port of Spain on Saturday, April 28, featured a wide range of contestants, each channelling an ongoing zeitgeist in a blend of creativity and poignancy to make strong political and social statements.

The judges, which included our very own Commissioner, Dr. Suzanne Burke, had a difficult time, but when the dust had finally settled, J’ouvert Haiti’s Island Sweets captured the top prize with their scathing, yet visceral presentation, “Shiphole Countries”.

The NCC congratulates Island Sweets, all of this year’s entrants, and the Bocas Lit Fest Committee, as ably led by Fest Founder/Director, Marina Salandy Brown and coordinator, Ardene Sirjoo on a wonderfully produced and staged event.

Here are few shots from Saturday’s competition.
