Welcome to the National Carnival Commission of Trinidad and Tobago

Canboulay Riots Re-enactment to be held at NAPA

Port of Spain, Trinidad, February 22, 2022: The National Carnival Commission of Trinidad and Tobago (NCC) wishes to advise the public that the re-enactment of the Canboulay Riots of 1881, which forms part of the NCC’s annual Carnival offerings, will not be put on this year by the Commission.

Instead of this production, which was originally scheduled for Friday February 25 at 5 am, there will be two stagings of the epic re-enactment at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), carded for two days, Friday, February 25 at 5.00 a.m. and 8.00 pm, and Sunday February 27 at 11.30 p.m.

The Commission is of the view that, in light of the overall paucity of resources available to the Carnival 2022 initiative, a greater communal benefit would be derived from its direct support of the annual production at its closely located sister organisation, rather than by the unnecessary and costly duplication of efforts.

The Commission wishes Mrs. Pearl Eintou Springer and the Idakeda Group abundant success with this historically and culturally relevant presentation.
