NCC John Cupid Carnival Village Returns in 2023

Port of Spain, Trinidad, January 20, 2023: Located on the eastern side of Carnival City, Queen’s Park Savannah, the NCC John Cupid Carnival Village marks its return to the annual calendar of events with an opening ceremony and concert scheduled for Saturday, January 21 at 6:30 pm.

Starting Saturday and continuing over the course of three weeks leading up to Carnival weekend, the Village will once again prominently feature a variety of performances and cultural treats for the public, showcasing some of the best in Mas, Pan, Calypso, Soca Chutney, Tassa, and Traditional Carnival Character portrayals, just to name a few.

Named after inveterate Carnival researcher and historian, John Gladstone Cupid, who passed away in 2017, the Village will become a hub of activity with vibrant displays of costumes, photos, and historical artifacts on the origins and development of Carnival.

There will also be a wide variety of affordably priced, 100% local, food and drink, as well as creative arts and crafts on sale.

This year, the Village has added new events to its roster, including special days catered to cruise ship visitors and tourists, and the launch of a schools visit programme that will offer primary and secondary schoolchildren from Port of Spain, Laventille, Morvant, and Belmont a chance to immerse themselves in the learning and fun of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival.

With secured parking and round-the-clock security provided, the Village is free and open to the public from 5:00 pm to 11 pm.

Saturday’s launch will feature a concert headlining many well-known and popular artistes, including Ronnie McIntosh, Superblue, Olatunji, Viking Ding Dong, and Ricki Jai. Also scheduled to perform are Mical Teja, Freetown Collective, and brass orchestra, Brass 2 the World.

The action starts this Saturday, January 21 at the John Cupid Carnival Village, Carnival City at 6:30 pm.
